It has long been apparent that Europe has a great variety of exciting, innovative jazz to offer whose energy is not least derived from the fact that it is based on its own traditions. In order to promote exchange among European bands and to smooth the path for artists on their way to the festivals and concert halls of neighbouring countries jazzahead! will for the first time include a special programme sponsored by the European Commission: European JazzXchange. Within this exchange and in co-operation with MGH and the partner countries Finland, Norway, Sweden, Hungary and Italy the Klaus Kuhnke Archive will present two bands of international interest from each of the named countries. They will perform in 30-minute showcase concerts.
A further highlight of the programme: the European JazzXchange Bigband, made up of a selection of the best jazz students from each country. Under the direction of the internationally famed composer and arranger Michael Gibbs these musicians - tomorrow's professionals - will work on and perform a programme he composed and arranged especially for jazzahead!
